2013 Annual Walk to School Day
Reducing traffic and congestion within your community isn’t as difficult to do as you might think. All it takes to promote a fun, healthy lifestyle and cleaner environment for yourself and your children is putting one foot in front of the other and walk to school.
This October 9th, 2013, the annual Walk to School event will take place. What began in 1997 as a one-day event to showcase the need for walkable communities has grown to an international event held in countries like the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. With thousands of participates worldwide, the annual Walk to School Day has also evolved to include a National Bike to School day.
There are some great reasons to participate in the annual Walk to School Day this October. Not only is it fun for kids and promotes a sense of independence, but it also reduces vehicle emissions in your community by replacing a car trip. Not only that, Walk To School Day also fosters a sense of community by getting you out to meet your neighbors and at the same time encourages traffic safety by reducing traffic flow in your area.
Participating in the 2013 Walk to School event is easy. Just plan your own event with the handy tools provided on the Walk Bike To School website and register it online to attract other participates in your area.
