Help Baton Rouge Walk – Like MADD – And Nibble Like Crazy – on May 6.
The event is a fundraiser in support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), an organization that works to strengthen drunk driving laws, educate the public about the dangers of impaired driving, and aid drunk driving victims and their families. Many of the people showing up will be those whose lives have been affected by drunk driving – there are all too many of those in Louisiana – but other walkers will just be public-spirited citizens who want to help make the state’s roads and streets safer.
Volunteers and staff at MADD Louisiana will attend, as well as Hillar Moore, East Baton Rouge District Attorney. State Police will also be lending their support to the event. Their task will be to help spread the message that drinking and driving is a reckless crime, but a preventable one. Along the trail will be exhibitors with other types of health and safety information.
Nibble Like MADD Too
All that walking takes energy, so the organizers of Baton Rouge Walk Like MADD 2017 are ensuring that food will be on hand. The Fire Department will set up a smokehouse. In addition, the 5K walk at Highland Road Park will feature a variety of vendors along the way, lending very tasty sustenance to the walkers. Among the generous in-kind sponsors are Sonic Drive-In, who will supply their famous slushies. The Jambalaya Festival Association will bring along – of course – jambalaya, Raising Cane’s will offer lemonade, and there will be po’boys with buns from Flowers Baking Company and Vernon’s Sausage.
To register, go here. Even though you’ll be too late to get a MADD T-shirt on the day, you’ll still get one. And more important, you’ll be doing your part to increase public awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, and helping to make Louisiana a safer place to drive, walk, and live in.
