Be Smart About Drinking this Spring Break
If you’ve ever thought twice about something you wanted to post online, whether it’s a racy picture or a comment directed at someone, you’ll know what it means to consider the long term when planning your actions. With Spring Break coming up, it’s more important than ever to put that type of thinking to work in your day to day life, because what happens on your Spring Break could come back to haunt you long after Spring Break is over.
Especially when it comes to drinking, you’ll want to keep your head on straight, stay safe, and not do anything that could adversely affect your future. Here are a few tried and true rules to keep in mind when considering Spring Break this year:
- Before drinking at your destination, familiarize yourself with the alcohol laws and legal drinking age. In the United States, the drinking age is 21 as required by State Law, but it could be different if you are traveling to another country.
- It’s never safe to binge drink. Not only can you cause bodily harm or possible death due to alcohol poisoning, you could also be charged with a DUI if you get behind the wheel or have the potential to lose control and hurt someone else.
- If you are drinking, be aware of who is giving you the beverage. It’s not unlikely that someone could slip something into your drink when you aren’t looking.
- It’s never a good idea to get behind the wheel after drinking. Be sure to appoint a designated driver or call a cab.
There’s a reason why we all look forward to Spring Break – It’s all about sun, fun, and having a great time. Just keep in mind the choices you make can affect you in the long run. If you can do that this Spring Break, you’ll ensure that when you come back to reality, you’ll have no regrets.
