Stay safe and avoid aggressive drivers this summer
If you’ve ever encountered aggressive drivers on the road, you’ll know they can leave you with a feeling of danger that can linger long after the incident is over. With summer coming, you can expect tempers to run as high as the temperatures outside your window, so preparing yourself for the possibility of aggressive drivers is a good idea.
According to the NHTSA, aggressive driving occurs when an individual violates traffic laws in order to cause harm to people or property. How do you spot an aggressive driver? These are individuals who may become angry and yell from their vehicles, tail gate you, change lanes rapidly, run yellow and red lights, and speed down the road. Although it’s easy to spot an aggressive driver, your safety during such an incident depends on how you react to the situation.
If you are confronted with an aggressive driver, be sure to get out of their way immediately. Even if you have to pull over on the side of the road, it’s safer to completely remove yourself from the situation than try to stick to your original route. Should you find yourself in a situation where the aggressive driver is trying to gesture or make eye contact with you, do your best to avoid them and keep your eyes on the road.
Always remember – If you can safely pull over, always write down the driver’s plate number and make a phone call to local police to report aggressive drivers you’ve encountered.
