Supporting MADD in Northern Virginia is a Walk in the Park.
Life can be hard sometimes. But not everything is a challenge. If you’d like to make the roads and streets of Northern Virginia safer, all you need is a bit of time Saturday morning. That’s when the Northern Virginia Walk Like MADD and MADD Dash will take place at Burke Lake Park.
It’s a chance to enjoy the lovely setting of the park in autumn, get some fresh air and exercise, and show your support for a vital cause: ending drunk driving.
Since 1980 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has been fighting for more effective legislation to keep drunk drivers off the road. They also have waged a tireless campaign to aid the victims of drunk driving, both those who have been injured and those who have lost loved ones to this senseless, preventable crime.
To join this 5k event as a walker, runner, or stroller, just register and then show up on the day. Tell your friends and encourage them to support you with a donation. Online registration cutoff is November 11th so don’t delay (if you miss the deadline you can still register at the event).
You can register as an individual, or you can join a team. You can also create a team – check online for more details. Funds raised go to promoting drunk driving legislation and also to aiding and counseling drunk driving victims.
Got Old, Wearable Sneakers? Donate ‘Em!
Here’s something you can do that will also benefit the cause of sober driving in Virginia. Please donate any wearable (no holes) sneakers you can spare to MADD by bringing them by the Walk on Saturday. The recycling fees go to the MADD programs that help save lives. So if your closet has an extra pair or two, please donate them – whether or not you’re registered.
The stage is set: a gorgeous weekend among the falling leaves in Burke Lake Park. What are you waiting for?
Everyone promises you that their assignment will be a walk in the park. This one really is.
