Walk Like MADD This Saturday at the Memphis Zoo. Don’t Dress Up.
Some events require ball gowns and tuxedos, but this Saturday’s West Tennessee Walk Like MADD isn’t one of them. Put on your walking (or running) shoes and whatever you’re comfortable in and take to the road in support of a vital cause: ending drunk driving in Tennessee and the nation.
The 5K event, which welcomes walkers, runners, the disabled, and public-spirited people of all ages, will take place at the Memphis Zoo, home to some 500 species of animals which live on its expansive 76 acres. The event is organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), which has spearheaded the nation’s sober driving efforts for almost 40 years.
Funds raised on the West Tennessee Walk Like MADD will go towards the organization’s goals of promoting more effective anti-drunk driving legislation, including ignition interlock laws and high-visibility law enforcement. Funds also go to help the victims of drunk driving crashes.
There are a number of ways to participate:
- Create or join a team
- Donate to a team
- If you can’t be there, register as a virtual walker
- Be a sponsor
More information is available at the West Tennessee Walk Like MADD site.
Please come. The residents at the Memphis Zoo will be looking their best, but you can show up in any old thing.
