Maryland has the highest participation -per capita– on the east coast in the ignition interlock program with close to 10,000 people using this technology for safer communities.

Maryland  is one of the first states in the nation to fully automate its ignition interlock program. The Motor Vehicle Administration said drivers in the program must report to one of the agency’s approved interlock vendors every 30 days to have their monitoring data downloaded and reported to program officials. It said violations are automatically flagged from the information sent to the providers.
